List of Volunteer Teams for VBS

There are many oppurtunities to share your God-given gifts with the youth of the Wooster area. Take a look at the list of teams that you may volunteer for, and then proceed to the Volunteer Registration page to sign up to share your gifts.
  • 3rd/4th Grade Program Team
    Gift - Do you enjoy working with older elementary youth, teaching the scripture in creative ways?
    Requirements - Develop and/or teach/help with our alternative 3rd/4th grade program. This group typically chooses one or more of the weeks scriptures and creates an artistic drama to be presented at the closing program on Thursday evening.
    Time Commitment - Planning time on your own, and a couple of meetings with planning committee. Set up time the week before VBS. Monday-Thursday 8:30am until your students are picked up (approximately 12:15). Thursday Evening program.

  • 5th/6th Grade Team
    Gift - Do you enjoy working with and planning activities for tweeners? Program could include music, arts & crafts, Bible study and recreation.
    Requirements - Help in area of interest.
    Time Commitment - MondayThursday 8:30-noon or more if you would like to be more involved in planning.

  • Adult Shepherd Team
    Gift - Do you enjoy working with children?
    Requirements - Able to move from station to station with a group of children in creative, fun and safe ways. Able to engage children during arrival, snack and other unstructured time. Shepherds are expected to participate in each workshop area.
    Time Commitment - Orientation meeting prior to VBS Monday-Thursday 8:35-until all your children are picked up (approximately 12:15).

  • Afternoon Mission Team
    Gift - Do you have a passion for mission and enjoy working with children?
    Requirements - Plan mission activities/projects for 3rd-6th grade students.
    Time Commitment - Planning on your own time and a couple of meetings with planning committee. Monday-Wednesday, Noon-3:00ish (clean-up if necessary)

  • Craft Team
    Gift - Do you enjoy doing crafts and working with children?
    Requirements - Plan and teach your own committee approved crafts or be able to teach recommended crafts.
    Time Commitment - Time to experiment making crafts on your own. Time in the week before VBS set up. Monday Thursday, 8:45am until clean up following your last session at 11:45. Final clean up on Thursday afternoon.

  • Drama Team
    Gift - Do you enjoy performing skits or working behind the scenes?
    Requirements - Be part of daily opening and closing skits and possibly, Thursday evening skit.
    Time Commitment - Rehearsals prior to VBS and Monday-Thursday opening 8:35-9:30am.

  • Lunch Time Friend
    Gift - Do you have an hour lunch break? Do you enjoy visiting with and engaging children between 3rd and 6th grade?
    Requirements - Come at lunch time to help monitor and occupy those quick eaters. Have simple word/trivia/group/etc games ready if needed.
    Time Commitment - Monday-Wednesday 11:50-12:45

  • Music Team
    Gift - Do you enjoy directing and singing, and working with children?
    Requirements - You will need to learn and creatively teach songs to children.
    Time Commitment - Preparation time on your own, meeting with other music leaders at your convenience, time in the week before VBS to set up your space. Monday-Thursday, 8:35-noon. Thursday evening 6:15- following the program.

  • Nursery Team
    Gift - Do you enjoy caring for babies, toddlers and young preschoolers?
    Requirements - Plan and/or help with simple activities for the children of our other VBS volunteers. Activities will depend the ages of those in the nursery.
    Time Commitment - One or more days, Monday-Thursday 8:25-shortly after noon.

  • Photography Team
    Gift - Are you good with camera, enjoy taking pictures and enjoy interacting with children and adults? Or do you enjoy making power point presentations?
    Requirements - Be able to move from area to area capturing pictures or be Power Point proficient.
    Time Commitment - Meeting with committee member at your convenience if needed. Monday-Thursday 8:30-noon, and/or Mon-Wed. 8:30-3:00 (to include afternoon mission. Power Point presentation needed for Thursday evening program. Thursday evening 6:15-8:30pm

  • Planning Team
    Gift - Do you enjoy seeing a project develop from the ground up, working with adults, being part of and watching something that reaches over 200 children unfold each summer, and sharing the Good News?
    Requirements - Work with the ecumenical committee to develop all aspects of Downtown Vacation Bible School. Areas of concentrations include, but are not limited to, curriculum, art, drama, storytelling, recreation, music, snack, safety, publicity, nursery, staffing, and mission.
    Time Commitment - We usually meet 1-2 times in the fall and then monthly January- March. In April and May we have meetings twice a month and as required as VBS approaches.

  • Recreation Team
    Gift - Do you enjoy participating in outdoor recreational activities and leading kids in safe and fun activities?
    Requirements - Plan recreation activities using daily theme and possible curriculum ideas.
    Time Commitment - Preparation time on your own to decide activities, and develop a list of required supplies. Monday-Thursday, 8:45am until clean up following your last session at 11:45. Final clean up on Thursday afternoon.

  • Registration Team
    Gift - Are you friendly and outgoing and enjoy interacting with children & adults?
    Requirements - Follow registration instructions.
    Time Commitment - Instruction from committee member before VBS if it's your first time. Meeting set at your convenience. Monday 8:20 until all are registered (typically 9:30) Tues-Thursday 8:30-9:30

  • Scenery/Decoration Team
    Gift - Do you enjoy creating drama scenery, bulletin boards, a welcoming atmosphere or creating the illusion of being transported into biblical times?
    Requirements - With gathered props and supplies, create our drama space for our daily opening. And/or creatively turn our Vacation Bible School space into a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the weeks scriptures.
    Time Commitment - Preparation time on your own. Set up prior to Vacation Bible School (time dependant on church building schedule). Clean up following Thursday evening program.

  • Snack Team
    Gift - Do you enjoy planning, preparing or serving snacks and interacting with children and adults?
    Requirements - Able to plan, and/or prepare and serve simple snacks for many children!
    Time Commitment - CoordinatorMonday-Thursday, 9:15-11:30 Team memberOne or more days Monday-Thursday 9:30-Clean up complete (approximately 11:15).

  • Story Teller Team
    Gift - Are you creative and enjoy sharing stories with children?
    Requirements - Be able to share Scripture with children in age appropriate and fun ways through characters, puppets or other creative storytelling.
    Time Commitment - Preparation time on your own to develop how you are going to share the story. Meeting time at your convenience with co-story teller to plan. Monday Thursday, 8:45am until clean up following your last session at 11:45. Final clean up on Thursday afternoon.

  • Teen Shepherd Team
    Gift - Do you enjoy working with children?
    Requirements - You must have completed 7th grade by the Vacation Bible School. Be attentive to children, respectful and responsive to adults, on task and present as assigned. You and your parent will need to sign a Teen Shepherd Covenant that will be sent to you with your assignment the week prior to VBS. Any teen who is deemed disrespectful or inappropriate will be released from duty.
    Time Commitment - Monday to Thursday, 8:35-until your adult shepherd releases you.
